3 Under-the-Radar Healthy Foods You Probably Don't Know About
Why you should be eating these superfoods
The entire buzz around healthy eating seems to be focused on a few key foods, such as kale, brussels sprouts, and quinoa. While most experts agree that these foods have incredible health benefits, there are some other healthy foods that are not getting the same great PR.These three foods have amazing health benefits for your body, and also taste great:
1. Pumpkin Seeds - Pumpkin seeds should become a part of your diet on more days than just Halloween. These crunchy seeds, which are packed with flavor, are a great source of minerals, magnesium, manganese, and phosphorous, as well as iron and copper. Drizzling pumpkin seeds over some greens, is an easy way to add flavor to any winter salad. Or, you can bring some seeds to work as a healthy and economical afternoon snack.
2. Turmeric - Rosemary? Check. Thyme? Check. Turmeric? Huh? Yes, some experts recommend that we should start adding turmeric to our spice drawers, as it may be one of nature’s best anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory foods. Turmeric, native to India and Asia, gives curry powder its punch. At home, you can add turmeric to curry dishes, veggies, satays and more! (Pictured).
3. Cinnamon - Go for it. It’s OK to put an extra scoop of cinnamon on your morning organic oatmeal. Cinnamon may help control blood sugar, lower cholesterol, and improve digestion of some foods. It tastes great, too! Given the arctic chill occurring throughout the nation, you can also add cinnamon to hot tea or cider.
